Chat with the Consulate: Israel
A social lunch, featuring the Deputy Consul General of Israel, Rony Yedidia
August 8, 2008 - On a bright Sunday afternoon in Cambridge, Deputy Consul General Rony Yedidia spoke with Boston International members about her home country, Israel. Ms. Yedidia started by mentioning that in a recent focus group, many participants thought Israel was an extremely conservative and closed society located in a barren desert. Ms. Yedidia went on to dispel some of these misconceptions, adressing the diversity of Israel’s population, its vibrant arts and music scene, its impressive technological and economic advancements, and its beautiful landscape of beaches, mountains, and (some) desert. She encouraged attendees to visit Israel to see for themselves how vibrant the country is, and closed by explaining the consulate’s role in strengthening the social, economic, and political ties between Israel and New England.
After the remarks, we opened up the floor for an engaging Q&A session. Members then had a chance to speak one-on-one with Ms. Yedidia and with fellow members while enjoying falafel and drinks, with festive Israeli music playing in the background.
After the event, all remaining food items were donated to the Pine Street Inn homeless shelter.
